Josh Hamilton Joins CSC's The Cherry Orchard, Starring Dianne Wiest

Josh Hamilton has joined Classic Stage Company’s forthcoming revival of Anton Chekhov’s The Cherry Orchard in a cast that includes previously announced stars John Turturro as Lopakhin and Dianne Wiest as Ranevskaya. Hamilton will play Trofimov, replacing Christian Camargo, who has withdrawn due to a film role. Andrei Belgrader’s production will begin performances on November 16 and open on December 4 for a limited engagement through December 23.

In addition to Turturro, Wiest and Hamilton, the cast of The Cherry Orchard will include Ken Cheeseman (Pischick), Daniel Davis (Gaev), Alvin Epstein (Fiers), Slate Holmgren (Yasha), Roberta Maxwell (Charlotta), Juliet Rylance (Varya), Michael Urie (Yepikhodov), Elisabeth Waterston (Dunyasha) and Katherine Waterston (Anya).

First presented in 1904 at the Moscow Art Theatre, The Cherry Orchard was Chekhov’s final play, and CSC's new production completes the company's Chekhov Cycle, which has included The Seagull (with Wiest and Alan Cumming), Uncle Vanya (with Denis O’Hare, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Peter Sarsgaard) and Three Sisters (with Gyllenhaal, Jessica Hecht, Rylance and Sarsgaard). The Cherry Orchard will be performed from a translation by John Christopher Jones.

Hamilton, who was featured in CSC’s Three Sisters, has appeared on Broadway in The Coast of Utopia, Proof and Brighton Beach Memoirs. His extensive off-Broadway credits include Hurlyburly, Gone Home, Things We Want, The Waverly Gallery, This Is Our Youth, subUrbia, The Cider House Rules, As Bees in Honey Drown, Music from a Sparkling Planet and Sexual Perversity in Chicago.

The Cherry Orchard will have scenic design by Santo Loquasto, costume design by Marco Piemontese, lighting design by James F. Ingalls, hair design by Paul Huntley and original music by Christian Frederickson and Ryan Rumery.
